
Syracuse to Play Washington State in DIRECTV Holiday Bowl

The Syracuse University football team is headed to the postseason for the third-straight season. The Orange will head to the DIRECTV Holiday Bowl in San Diego, California on Dec. 27.

'Cuse will face Washington State at 8 p.m. (5 p.m. PST). Exclusive pre-sale opportunities will be available beginning today (Sunday) for Legends Society members, 'Cuse Athletics Fund donors and season ticket holders. Members of those groups should check their emails for links to purchase in their exclusive buying windows. Alumni can purchase tickets beginning this evening at 7 p.m. on Cuse.com/Bowl.

Members of the general public can also access tickets at Cuse.com/Bowl beginning after 7 p.m. Fans are encouraged to purchase their bowl tickets through Syracuse Athletics to ensure seats in Syracuse sections of the stadium.

Syracuse has played Washington State once previously, hosting the Cougars at in 1979. That game was played at then Rich Stadium in Orchard Park, N.Y. as the Dome was being constructed. 'Cuse won the contest 52-25.

Washington State enters the game with an 8-4 record this season.

It's the 29th bowl game for the Syracuse football program, which boasts 16-11-1 record in its 28 prior bowl appearances. First-year head coach Fran Brown has the Orange at 9-3 after the regular season, tied for the most regular season victories by a first-year head coach in program history.

Twelve student-athletes earned All-ACC recognition this season, the most for Syracuse since joining the conference ahead of the 2013 season. Syracuse is also ranked in the College Football Playoff (No. 21), Associated Press (No. 22) and USA Today Coaches Polls (No. 25) entering Bowl Season.

Brown has instilled a culture of DART (Detailed. Accountability. Relentless. Tough.) in the program that has helped the Orange post the nation's most one-possession victories this season. Nine of 'Cuse's 12 regular season contests were decided by eight points or less, with Brown's squad coming away victorious in seven of those contests.

Quarterback Kyle McCord has re-written the Syracuse record book this season and leads the country in passing yards. A finalist for the Manning Award, presented annually to the nation's top quarterback, McCord is the new program record holder for passing yards (4,326), touchdowns (29) and completions (367).

Two other Syracuse players have career records for the Orange, as tight end Oronde Gadsden II is the program's all-time leader among tight ends in receptions (137) and yards (1,896). Running back LeQuint Allen Jr. holds the same records (116 receptions, 805 yards) among running backs.

The nation's most prolific passing attack this season, Trebor Pena (79), Jackson Meeks (73), Gadsden (65) and Allen (61) have four of the 14 highest single-season reception totals in school history this year.

On defense, linebackers Marlowe Wax (328) and Justin Barron (280) near the end of their 'Cuse careers as two of the top-10 tacklers this century for the Orange. Edge Fadil Diggs leads the team with 13.0 tackles for loss, the 18th most in a season in program history.
