
6 Orange Advance to Finals

Six members of the Orange advanced to Saturday's finals, plus a new school record was set in the 400-meter dash on day two of the ACC Indoor Track and Field Championships.
The Orange took half of the spots in the 60-meter hurdles finals, led by Jaheem Hayles with the top qualifying time of 7.78 seconds. Anthony Vazquez (7.92), Emanuel Joseph (7.93) and Naseem Smith (8.01) also advanced. Xayvion Perkins (8.08) ran a PR, whule Isaiah Lewis (8.17) and David Peters (8.24) also raced.
Taleea Buxton ran a personal best in the women's 60-meter hurdles to advance to Saturday. She crossed the line in 8.39 seconds. Teammate Shaleah Colaire finished in 8.42 seconds, missing the finals by 0.02 seconds.
Elijah Mallard narrowly missed the finals in the 400-meter dash, finishing in 47.38 seconds. He was just 0.01 seconds out of the final spot in the finals, but managed to set a school record. The Orange have now broken the men's 60, 200, 400 and 5,000-meter records this season. Perkins (49.62) also competed in the 400, his second event of the afternoon.
The smallest margin for missing the finals came from Trei Thorogood in the 60-meter dash. He was 0.002 seconds out of the eighth spot, taking 10th in 6.746 seconds. Daijon Richards (7.01 seconds) and James Nmah (7.09 seconds) were 19th and 21st, respectively.
Benne Anderson is the lone freshman to make the finals of the men's mile, after racing to the third-best time in Friday's prelims. His time of 4:04.51 earned him a place in Saturday's final. Ruben Rojas Betanzos (4:14.18) and Eamon Burke (4:15.03) also raced for the Orange. Burke's time was a season-best mark.
Caroline Kirby finished 18th in the women's mile with a personal-best time of 4:52.81. Justus Holden-Betts (4:55.48) was 22nd.
Kahniya James took 14th in the women's 60-meter dash in 7.52 seconds, while Olivia Garner was 22nd.
Alexander Segarra finished the day with a time of 1:54.29 in the 800-meter run.
The event will end on Saturday with Orange represented in the finals of the 3,000-meter runs, men's mile, 4x400-meter relay, 60-meter hurdles and men's 200-meter dash.
