
Sala Receives Hardwood Club Hanson Medal

The Syracuse University Men's Basketball Hardwood Club presented the Vic Hanson Medal of Excellence to Peter Sala, Vice President and Chief Facilities Officer at Syracuse University, prior to the February 27 game with Virginia Tech.

The honor is bestowed on an individual or individuals who have ties to the men's basketball program and have made outstanding contributions to college basketball.Â
"The Hardwood Club recognizes all that Peter Sala has done and continues to do in support of the Men's Basketball Program and Syracuse University in general," said Ronald Szyjkowski, president of the Hardwood Club. ". In addition to hosting thousands and thousands of fans at hundreds and hundreds of games, his work and leadership at the Dome has supported student-athlete practices and countless other activities."

Sala was first associated with Syracuse's Dome in 1982 as a production assistant. He advanced through the ranks to production manager in 1988 and then operations manager in 1991.

He became assistant director of facilities operations for the Dome in 1991 and in 2005 Sala was promoted to associate director of athletics facilities. Five years later, Sala was named managing director of the Dome.
Sala also served as the interim director of athletics for five months in 2015.
In June of 2015, Chancellor Kent Syverud announced his appointment of Sala as vice president and chief campus facilities officer. In addition to heading up all operations at the Dome, Sala's new post included oversight of campus departments for Campus Planning, Design and Construction, Business and Facilities and Maintenance Services, Physical Plant, Housing and Food Services Maintenance, and Energy Systems & Sustainability Management.Â

His Dome responsibilities have included managing all aspects of the day-to-day operations of the facility. Sala oversees the coordination and scheduling of events, managing the box office, maintaining the budget and directing all necessary building maintenance.

He is the construction manager for all athletics facility upgrades and new building projects.

Sala played a key role in the many recent upgrades that have been made at what is now the JMA Wireless Dome.

He is a 1979 graduate of Jamesville-DeWitt High School. He attended Morrisville College and later the University of Massachusetts, where he completed a program in turf management.
