EVENT PREVIEW:
Hayles enters the meet with the 14th-best time nationally this season at 7.65 seconds. He ran a PR of 7.61 seconds at this event last season.
The event will feature two heats of eight runners, with the top-two place finishers in each heat, plus next-four fastest overall times across the two races advancing to Saturday's NCAA final. Hayles will race in heat one, drawing the fifth lane. Texas Tech's Caleb Dean (7.55 seconds) and Houston's De'Vion Wilson (7.55 seconds) have the best time in his heat this season, and will race out of lane one and four, respectively. The remainder of the heat will be Northeastern's Ethan Exilhomme (7.60 season best), Iowa's Grant Conway (7.66 season best), Texas Tech's Antione Andrews (7.60 season best), Arkansas' Tai Brown (7.63 season best) and Baylor's Demario Prince (7.62 season best).
USC's Johnny Brackins ran a PR time of 7.55 seconds to own the national lead heading into the meet - he's entered in the second heat. The entire field's season-best times are all within 0.11 seconds of each, making this the most closely bunched top-to-bottom field in recent history.
Hayles, the ACC Champion in the event, is the lone competitor from the conference in this year's 16-man qualifying field.
