
Men’s Lacrosse Surges Back Into Top Five

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – After picking up its third top-five win of the 2024 season, the Syracuse University men's lacrosse team surged back into the top five of the major polls this week.
Fresh off an 18-17 thriller over No. 4 Virginia at the JMA Wireless Dome on Saturday, the Orange (11-4, 3-1 ACC) landed in the number for spot in both the USILA Coaches Poll and the Inside Lacrosse Media Poll.
Syracuse collected 319 points in the USILA Coaches Poll this week to grab the number four spot, up from the number seven spot last week. Notre Dame remained atop the poll with 379 points and 18 of the 19 first-place votes. Duke was slotted second with 361 points and the final top vote, followed by Johns Hopkins in third with 337 points. Denver rounded out the top five with 299 points for fifth.
In the Inside Lacrosse Media Poll, Syracuse garnered 428 points for fourth, a jump of two spots from last week. Notre Dame was again the number one team with 500 points and all 25 first-place votes. Duke was second with 461 points with Hopkins close behind with 446 points. Virginia slipped one spot to number five in the media poll this week with 383 points.
Eleven of Syracuse's 15 opponents this season were mentioned in the USILA Coaches Poll: No. 1 Notre Dame, No. 2 Duke, No. 3 Johns Hopkins, No. 6 Virginia, No. 7 Maryland, No. 9 Cornell, No. 12 Army West Point, No. 18 Delaware, with Colgate, Utah, and High Point all receiving votes.
Syracuse wrapped up the regular season with a 6-4 record against opponents mentioned in the poll the week of the games, including a 3-3 record against top-five opponents. The four losses suffered by the Orange during the regular season were by a combined five goals, with just one multi-goal loss coming at the hands of No. 1 Notre, a 14-12 setback on the road.
The Orange have secured a berth in the 2024 ACC Men's Lacrosse Tournament, slated for Friday May 3 (semifinals) and Sunday May 5 (championship). Final tournament seeds will be announced on Saturday, April 27 after the remaining four ACC teams conclude their regular seasons.
