
Seven Earn USILA All-America Honors

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Seven Syracuse University men's lacrosse players were recognized with USILA All-America honors for the 2024 season. The United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) announced its annual All-Americans Thursday morning.
Jake Stevens was selected to the USILA All-America Second Team as a midfielder while sophomores Joey Spallina and Billy Dwan were third teamers at attack and defense, respectively. Four Orange earned honorable mention status: Owen Hiltz (Attack), Sam English (Midfield), Mason Kohn (Faceoff) and Will Mark (Goalie).
Stevens earns his first USILA All-America honor, as does Dwan. Spallina was an honorable mention selection last year as Hiltz picks up his second All-America selection after earning honorable mention status his rookie season (2021). Likewise, English is an Honorable Mention pick for a second-straight season. Mark earns his third career All-America honor as a three-time honorable mention earner (2022, 2023, 2024) and his second with the Orange. Kohn picks up his first Division I USILA All-America honor and second in his career after earning a Division III First Team selection last season atTufts.
A do-it-all midfielder drafted into the Premier Lacrosse League (PLL), Stevens produced the sixth-most points for the Orange, racking 21 goals and 15 assists for 36 points. He tacked on two man-up goals while accounting for a game-winning strike. Seeing plenty of time on the faceoff wing, he collected 47 ground balls while causing four turnovers. He helped bolster a faceoff unit that ranks eighth in Division I at a 58.0 percent clip, a jump of 16 percentage points.
Spallina capped his sophomore campaign with 88 points on 37 goals and 51 assists, which ranks third across Division I entering Memorial Day Weekend. A Tewaaraton Nominee (top 25), Spallina led the Orange in points and assists for a second straight season. He shot 33.0 percent on the year while canning six extra-man goals alongside four game-winners. He caused five turnovers in the ride as well.
A rangy close defenseman, Dwan started all 18 games as a sophomore. He caused 18 turnovers this spring, ranking third on the team while snagging 34 ground balls. A threat in transition as well, Dwan drilled eight goals in his second season with 'Cuse, the third-most goals in a single season by a defenseman and the fifth-most points. Dwan accounted for the most goals by a Syracuse pole this century.
Another dual-threat midfielder, English tagged opponents for 23 goals while adding 11 assists for 34 points, one of four 'Cuse midfielders with at least 30 points this spring. He added two game-winning goals, including the deciding goal in an 18-17 win over No. 4 Virginia at the JMA Wireless Dome. He added 34 ground balls while aiding on the faceoff with with a pair of caused turnovers as well, all while taking just two penalties all season.
Hiltz continued his scoring ways, finishing second for the Orange this season with 65 points on 38 goals and 27 assists, continuing his impressive point streak of 45 games. He improved his season point total by a dozen this season while adding 14 more goals to his 2023 total. Hiltz finished 2024 with the best shooting percentage among the Orange attack unit, depositing shots at a 35.2 percent clip with an impressive 64.8 percent of his total shots on goal. He finished second on the team with six power play markers and two game-winning goals. He tacked on another six caused turnovers in the ride as well.
Bringing a resurgence to the 'Cuse faceoff unit, Kohn was a 1A option at the X this season. He led the year with 196 faceoff wins at a 58.3 percent rate, which ranked 14th in Division I this spring. His 336 attempts were tied for the ninth-most in program history for a single season while his winning percentage was the best for a Syracuse player in the Gary Gait Era (2022). Kohn accounted for eight goals and seven assists this spring, while his prowess at the X led directly to 71 Syracuse goals this spring.

He is the first 'Cuse netminder with back-to-back seasons with more than 200 saves this century and the first since Rob Mulligan made 224 in 1999 and 204 in 2000. Across his 1,007 minutes of action this season, Mark stopped 52.4 percent of the shots he faced while backing the Orange to a 12-6 record, the most wins in a season since 2017.
