PLL Round Up: Week Two

Week two of the Premier Lacrosse League (PLL) season got underway in Charlotte, North Carolina this weekend, and with it, the first game action for Syracuse University men's lacrosse alumni.
Three alumni were rostered this week, including Cole Kirst on the dress roster. Two others, Steven Brooks and Matt Palumb, were in assistant coach and head official roles, respectively, at American Legion Memorial Stadium over the weekend.
California Redwoods
Kirst was the first former Orange to suit up for a team this season. In a neck-and-neck 12-11 loss against the home-standing Carolina Chaos, Kirst ripped off six shots, putting four chances on goal. He had 14 touches in the game as a midfielder.
Alex Simmons was listed on the Redwoods' protected roster as an attackman this week and did not see game action.
Maryland Whipsnakes
The Maryland Whipsnakes dropped a 13-9 decision against the Boston Cannons this past weekend. Brett Kennedy was listed on the protected roster as a defenseman and did not play.
New York Atlas
The New York Atlas took care of the Chaos 15-12 in the second game of the weekend for Carolina. Drake Porter dressed but did not see game action.
Steven Brooks, an assistant coach for the Atlas, coaching the offense to a strong 7-3 start in the first quarter while keeping pace with Carolina in the second half for the win.
The PLL heads to Greater Philadelphia this weekend for another four-game set on Saturday and Sunday at Villanova Stadium. Boston Cannons and Philadelphia Waterdogs lead off at 12:30 p.m. followed by Utah Archers and Carolina Chaos at 7 p.m.. Sunday sees a 'Cuse-heavy showdown between the California Redwoods and the New York Atlas with a 12:30 p.m. start followed by Maryland Whipsnakes against the Waterdogs at 3 p.m.
