Week three of the Premier Lacrosse League (PLL) calendar hit the Main Line this weekend with four games at Villanova Stadium.
Two alumni were rostered this week, including Cole Kirst (Redwoods) and Brett Kennedy (Whipsnakes). Two others, Steven Brooks and Matt Palumb, were in assistant coach and head official roles, respectively, over the weekend.
California Redwoods
Cole Kirst racked his first points of the 2024 season in a 20-15 setback against the unblemished New York Atlas. Kirst posted two points with a goal and an assist. The reigning Teammate of the Year connected twice with Ryder Garnsey as Kirst scored in the first quarter on a Garnsey assist before slinging an assist to Garnsey on a 2-point goal late in the fourth. Kirst had 14 touches with 12 passes as well.
Maryland Whipsnakes
Brett Kennedy made the Maryland Whipsnakes dress roster for the first time this summer as the Whipsnakes picked off the home-standing Philadelphia Waterdogs 15-14 in overtime. Kennedy did not have any recorded stats during the game.
New York Atlas
The New York Atlas improved to 3-0 on the year with a 20-15 win over the California Redwoods. The Orange did not have any alumni dress for the game, but Atlas assistant coach Steven Brooks helped guide the Atlas to a 12-7 score in the second half, including a 6-2 third quarter as New York put away the Redwoods.
The PLL enters a bye week over the weekend of June 21-23 before returning to action in the Midwest on June 28-29 in the suburbs of Minneapolis, Minnesota. New York Atlas and Maryland Whipsnakes lead off the weekend on Friday, June 28 with a 7 p.m. game on ESPN+, followed by Boston Cannons and Utah Archers at 9:30 p.m. Saturday June 29 sees the Redwoods square off with Denver Outlaws at 6 p.m. on ESPN2 and ESPN+ with Philadelphia Waterdogs and Carolina Chaos rounding out the action at TCO Stadium with an 8:30 p.m. game on ESPN+.
