Olympic Track Trials Begin for Orange This Weekend
6/20/2024 10:09:00 AM | Track and Field
The countdown to the Paris Olympics is on and members of the Syracuse track and field program and its alumni are hoping to realize the Olympic dream at their respective nation's trials.
Three alumni and one current Orange are set to get things started at the U.S. Olympic Track and Field trials, beginning on Friday. Other 'Cuse runners will compete at their respective national championships for Canada, Germany and Jamaica in the coming weeks – a preview of those meets will follow once entries have been released.
Amanda Vestri, Freddie Crittenden III, Madison Neuner and Aidan Tooker will compete in Eugene, Oregon over the next week.
Tooker, who was a First Team All-American with the Orange in the 3,000-meter steeplechase and a two-time All-Region performer in cross country, will be the first on the track Friday night. He'll race in the first round of the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase at 7:49 p.m. eastern time. That will be broadcast on USA Network. If he advances, he'll race on Sunday night at 10:07 p.m. on NBC.
Crittenden III, who has since been a U.S. Champion in the 60-meter hurdles and competed at a number of World Championship events since graduating from 'Cuse, will start his Olympic Trials on Monday at 9:05 p.m. eastern in the 110-meter hurdles. Semifinals and finals will be Thursday and Friday. All of his potential races will air on NBC.
Neuner, fresh off an ACC runner-up performance in the 3,000-meter steeplechase this season, will compete in the event on Monday night as well. Her race will be at 8:59 p.m. eastern. If she advances, she'll race again on Thursday night. Both races will be televised on NBC.
Vestri will be the last one to compete, racing in the women's 10,000-meters at 9:09 p.m. eastern on Saturday, June 29. A four-time All-American in her collegiate career, including a pair of first team honors on the track. That race will be on NBC.
