CHARLOTTE, N.C. – After a strong junior season and an NCAA Singles Tournament berth, Syracuse University women's tennis standout Miyuka Kimoto earned All-ACC honors. The Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) announced its annual women's tennis awards Thursday morning.
Kimoto, who advanced to the second round of the NCAA Division I Women's Tennis Singles Championship in May, was named Third Team All-ACC in a vote of the league's head coaches. It is the first ACC postseason honor for Kimoto.
The junior from Oita, Japan went 11-9 overall this spring, including 10-7 during the regular season. Kimoto split her ACC matches at 6-6 while collecting three wins over ranked opponents this spring. One of her biggest wins this season came in a dramatic 7-6 (7-4), 7-6 (7-4) win over third-ranked Amelia Rajecki, an All-ACC First Teamer, to help the Orange secure a 4-3 come-from-behind victory over No. 8 NC State.
Throughout the 2023-24 academic year, Kimoto compiled a 17-11 singles record, finishing the year ranked 50th in the ITA standings. In the round of 64 at the NCAA Tournament, Kimoto swept Savannah Broadus (Pepperdine) 7-5, 6-4 to advance to the round of 32, the first Syracuse singles player to move on in the Tournament since 2018.
Miami's Alexa Noel was selected as the Player of the Year while Shavit Kimchi of Duke was tapped as the Freshman of the Year. Virginia's Sara O'Leary was voted as the Coach of the Year.
