Syracuse alum Shannon Malone has joined the Syracuse cross country and track and field programs as an assistant coach, head coach Brien Bell announced.
Malone, an NCAA Northeast Regional Champion in 2018, concluded her time at Syracuse during the 2018-19 season and was on a part of Bell's staff during the 2023-24 year.
"I'm thrilled to be back at Syracuse and to join the coaching staff full-time," Malone said. "This program holds a special place in my heart, and I am excited to be a part of its continued success. Coming back feels like coming home."
A Pittsburgh, Pa. native, Malone is a two-time USTFCCCA All-Northeast Region honoree and two-time All-ACC performer in cross country. She was also a three-time All-Conference performer on the track in her Orange tenure.
"Shannon's athletic and organizational experience will be a real boost for the staff and our student athletes," Bell said. "It is exciting to have her back with the program full time."
Malone will primarily work with Orange distance runners, her area of expertise, on the 'Cuse staff, as well as assisting in program recruiting and fundraising efforts. She joins the program as the 'Cuse men seek to extend the nation's fourth-lonest active streak of NCAA Championship appearances in cross country (15-straight), and the women's team enters the 2024 campaign looking to defend their NCAA Northeast Regional Championship and reach their fourth-straight NCAA Championships, which would tie the program record.
