Orange stars Oronde Gadsden and Marlowe Wax earned Preseason All-ACC honors, as voted on by the league's media who attended ACC Kickoff.
Gadsden, a record-breaking tight end for the Orange, returns from injury that sidelined him for nearly the entirety of the 2023 season. He returns to the Orange at full strength in 2024, seeking to duplicate his stellar 2022 campaign. He was a First Team All-ACC selection as a sophomore after leading all tight ends nationally in receiving yards (969). The total was the seventh-most in a single season in Syracuse history and cleared the tight ends receiving yards record by nearly 400 yards. He also set the program record for receptions by a sophomore (61) and receptions by a tight end in 2022.
The eighth-highest rated pass catcher in the nation in 2022, according to Pro Football Focus, Gadsden appeared in just two games in 2023. Playing the first half against Colgate in the season opener and suffering a season-ending Lisfranc injury on the first possession of game two. Still, he picked up right where he left off. In little more than 30 minutes of season, he caught seven passes for 67 yards and a score.
Wax, who has played in all-49 games since arriving on campus in 2020, including a team-best active streak of 38 consecutive starts, enters the 2024 season closing in on 300 career tackles. A Second Team All-ACC selection last season, Wax enters his final season in the top-20 of numerous Orange career record lists.
He's 19th in total tackles (294), second in forced fumbles (8), trailing only College and Pro Football Hall of Famer Dwight Freeney (14), seventh in tackles for loss (36.5). He also has 16.5 sacks, three fumble recoveries, five pass breakups and a blocked kick in his 'Cuse career.
It's the second preseason accolade for Wax, who was previously named to the Lott IMPACT Trophy Watch List.
