Orange Well Represented at Upcoming Rowing World Championships
8/16/2024 5:43:00 PM | Men's Rowing
Five Orange rowers will represent their home countries in St. Catherines, Canada for the 2024 World Rowing Senior, Under 23 and Under 19 Championships Aug 18-25. Due to it being a Summer Olympic and Summer Paralympic year, senior categories are limited to non-Olympic and non-Paralympic boat classes. The 2024 World Rowing Championships will take place at the world class Royal Canadian Henley Rowing Course.Â
Mack Carr, a rising junior from Pine Bush, N.Y., with dual citizenship in England, qualified for Great Britain's U23 men's pair (M2-). The 2024 U23 World Championships mark the first time Carr will compete on an international level for Great Britain.
Fellow rising junior Payton Gauthier will race in Canada's U23 men's eight (M8+). Gauthier, a native of Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada will represent The Reds for the second time, having placed ninth in the same event at the 2022 U19/U23 World Championships.
Coming off his first season with the Orange, Luke Dunleavy has qualified as a member of Ireland's men's coxless four (M4-) U23 boat class. He was a member of the 2023 Irish National Championship crews that won the Senior 8+ and the Senior 4+.
Also racing are newcomers Niki Strauss in Austria's U23 M4- and Aidan Montanaro in the U19 men's coxed four (M4+) for the United States. Additionally, John Testerman was selected as a spare for the United States' U19 squad.
Syracuse's five representatives in 2024 come off the heels of three selections in 2023 (Lachlan Doust-Australia, Sean McHugh-New Zealand, Joe Willis-Great Britain). Willis won gold in the men's eight with Great Britain.
