Syracuse Blanks Siena, 2-0
8/22/2024 9:34:00 PM | Women's Soccer
Senior Blythe Braun posted a shutout in her first Syracuse start and the Orange (2-0-1) scored twice in the second half to beat Siena (1-2), 2-0, at the SU Soccer Stadium on Thursday night.
Juniors Ashley Rauch and Erin Flurey each scored after the intermission for Syracuse. The Orange improved to 4-0 in the all-time series with the Saints.
Braun Stands Tall
Braun, a transfer from Florida Atlantic, made three critical saves in picking up the shutout after 90 minutes of work. Her final stop, when she thwarted Siena's Annie Bagnell with 17:30 remaining, may have been her best save of the night.
Rauch Gets Syracuse On The Board
Syracuse scored first a little over two minutes into the second half. Senior Julia Dening, who transferred from Siena, dribbled free and led Rauch on the right side. Rauch's attempt bounced once and went past Siena goalkeeper Cate Burns. It was Rauch's second goal in three contests.
Flurey Extends The Advantage
Siena battled to even the score before Flurey executed a give-and-go with junior Anna Rupert and pushed Syracuse's margin to 2-0. After receiving the pass back from Rupert, Flurey drove the ball left-footed into an open spot for her first tally of the campaign.
