SYRACUSE, N.Y. - No. 7 Syracuse men's soccer welcomes the Charlotte 49ers for the first-ever matchup between the teams on Thursday, Aug. 29. Kickoff is set for 8 p.m. and the match will be streamed on ACC Network Extra.
Parking and admission are free for all in attendance.
'Cuse Update
The Orange are coming off a two-win opening week, where they earned 1-0 and 3-0 victories over Colgate (Aug. 22) and Niagara (Aug. 25), respectively.
'Cuse narrowly edged Colgate on the road, 1-0, using an 87th-minute goal by Chimere Omeze to earn the win.
Syracuse then used a strong offensive showing to beat Niagara in its first game of the home slate at SU Soccer Stadium. The Orange outshot the Purple Eagles, 28-2, with Ezra Widman, Omeze, and Nicholas Kaloukian recording scores in the win.
Orange in the Polls
Syracuse was ranked No. 7 in the latest edition of the United Soccer Coaches poll, released on Tuesday, Aug. 27. The Orange, who jumped 18 spots from the preseason rankings, earned the distinction after a two-win opening week against Colgate and Niagara.
Syracuse is one of six ACC teams included in the week-one rankings. The other five schools were reigning National Champion, Clemson (No. 1), Pittsburgh (No. 3), Stanford (No. 13), Louisville (No. 15), and North Carolina (No. 17). Virginia Tech (5), SMU (4), Notre Dame (4), and Duke (2) also received votes towards the rankings.
Scouting the 49ers
The Niners are heading up to Syracuse after a 3-0 season-opening win over Davidson on Friday, Aug. 23. Three of the team's top goal scorers from a season ago, Ian Pilcher, Filip Jauk, and Brigham Larsen, all recorded scores in the win.
In 2023, the program recorded its highest win total since 2019 with 13. The 49ers made a statement in the postseason, winning the American Conference Tournament, defeating No. 1-seeded SMU, 2-1, in the championship game. With the conference tournament win, Charlotte also earned a bid to the NCAA Tournament, where it recorded a 1-0 first-round victory over High Point before falling to eventual tournament champion, Clemson, in the second round.

Thursday will be the first contest in the all-time series between the Orange and the 49ers.
