
Cornell Snaps 'Cuse Win Streak

Host Cornell (1-0-2) put a stop to Syracuse's (4-1-1) five-game unbeaten streak, beating the Orange 2-1 at Berman Field in Ithaca, N.Y.
In a match that featured only first-half scoring, the Big Red sandwiched its two tallies around Syracuse's lone marker.
BIG RED FIND THE NET FIRST
Cornell got on the board first. Laken Gallman scored her first of the season with assists from Gabby Gonzalez and Lily Ellingson at 21:31 in the opening half. Ellingson started the play on a corner -- Gonzalez then redirected the ball off a header and Gallman finished it off.
ORANGE RESPONSE
Syracuse climbed back into the contest 18 minutes later when Julia Dening scored her first goal with the Orange. A transfer from Siena, Dening stole the ball and converted from the right side.
RED REGAIN ADVANTAGE
The game did not stay knotted for long.Just 3:40 prior to the intermission, Alanna Colbert fed Sydney Allen with a crossing pass and Allen headed the ball into the open net.
ORANGE OPPORTUNITIES
Syracuse had two great chances to tie the contest in the second half. The first came just over 11 minutes into the half from Anna Rupert, whose drive clanged off the Cornell cross bar. Later in the contest, following a scramble in front of the Cornell net, Anna Croyle misfired from close range.
