How it Happened
- Syracuse jumped on the Huskies early, ripping off four penalty corners and shots in the first five minutes. The homesteading Orange took six shots in the first 15 minutes of the game.
- The Orange took another handful of shots early in the second quarter. Northeastern put the pressure back on Syracuse, setting up a big takeaway from Rowan, who charged down field, past the Huskies' entire defense and slotting home the go-ahead goal in the 27th minute.
- Finally the Syracuse penalty corner unit broke through as Taja Gans zipped in a direct feed to van Kempen, who took a rip from the top to the back post. Hattie Madden got a low stick on the ball and doubled the Syracuse lead in the 42nd minute.
- Syracuse continued to apply the pressure in the final 15 minutes, taking eight shots, including three on goal. The Orange midfield and defensive unit did not surrender a shot in the fourth quarter.
- Syracuse out-shot Northeastern 22-4 over the course of 60 minutes, including a 12-1 differential in shots on goal.
- A point of emphasis during the week, Syracuse earned 11 penalty corners, including five in the opening period.
- The Orange leveled their record on Friday the 13th in September to an even 2-2, paired with a 2-1 win over No. 7 UMass back in 2013. Syracuse is 3-5 on any Friday the 13th.
- It's one final home game this month for the Orange as Syracuse challenges Lafayette on Sunday.
- Game time is set for 1 p.m. on ACC Network at J.S. Coyne Stadium.
- Syracuse and the Leopards look to renew the series after last year's game was canceled due to heavy rain and storms in the Lehigh Valley last fall.
