Orange Edged by Cornell on Late Goal

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Syracuse men's soccer (3-3-3, 0-1-2 ACC) was edged by Cornell (5-0-2, 0-0-0 IVY), 1-0, on Tuesday night at SU Soccer Stadium. The game was deadlocked at 0-0 through 85 minutes of play, before the Big Red found the back of the net to take a win back to Ithaca.

HOW IT HAPPENED:Â
Both teams created numerous chances through the first 85 minutes of a rain-filled contest in Syracuse, as the Big Red and the Orange were level at five shots on goal apiece.

As the clock started to creep close to the 90-minute mark, it was Cornell who found a way onto the score sheet, slipping a ball past Tomas Hut with under five minutes to go.

The Orange tacked on a shot in the 89th minute to try and level the contest, but ultimately fell, 1-0.

- Daniel Burko, who was named ACC Co-Offensive Player of the Week earlier today, earned a spot in the starting 11 for the second-consecutive match.
- Ben Rosenblatt and Kristjan Fortier earned their third and second starts of the season, respectively.
- Sam Layton went the distance for his ninth-straight game, as the graduate student has not been subbed off the pitch this campaign.
- Hut matched a season-high five saves in the lost. He also stopped five shots on the road in Syracuse's tie at Boston College on Sept. 6.
- Gabe Threadgold, who went the distance for the second time this campaign, led the offensive attack with three shots.
