McCord Stars Through Opening Two Games

Fran Brown's introductory press conference on Dec. 4, 2023 featured the standard fanfare and interviews that introduced Syracuse fans to the new era of the program. But it was later that evening, over 450 miles away in Ohio, where Brown began to lay some of the most important groundwork.
The same day Brown held his press conference, appeared on ACC Network and ran through a litany of first-day obligations, he flew to Columbus, Ohio. A mere hours after quarterback Kyle McCord had entered his name into the transfer portal, Brown setup a meeting with the star signal caller who had spent the past three seasons at Ohio State. McCord committed to Syracuse less than two weeks later. The early returns show why landing McCord was among Brown's literal day-one priorities. Through two games, he leads the nation in passing touchdowns (8), ranks third in passing yards (735), second in completions (29.5 per game), fourth in total offense (372.0 per game) and fourth in points responsible for (48).

His decisive and accurate passing, and even some scrambling ability, helped lead the Orange past No. 23 Georgia Tech on Saturday for the first ACC and ranked win of Brown's tenure.
"I'm just playing free and having fun," McCord said after the game when asked about Brown's desire to see 'little league Kyle' this season, following a 15-yard run for a crucial first-down pickup against Georgia Tech. "I'm not getting caught up on one mistake and letting that kind of ruin the drive. Just having short-term memory and letting it rip out there. I think that definitely came out today."
McCord set new career highs with 32 completions and 381 yards and tied his personal best of four touchdown passes in the win over the Yellow Jackets. For the second week in a row, McCord threw completions to eight different receivers, spreading the ball to weapons all over the field.
McCord and the Orange will now have a bye this weekend before hosting Stanford on Friday, Sept. 20 in the JMA Wireless Dome. Tickets are available at Cuse.com/Tickets.
