5 Things to Know: Syracuse at SMU
10/1/2025 2:47:00 PM | Football
Syracuse hits the road for the third time this season on Saturday, facing SMU at 3:30 eastern. Here's five things to know about the matchup:
1. Second Time, Long Time
Saturday's game is the second matchup all-time with SMU, and first in 93 years. The Mustangs, which joined the ACC prior to the 2024 season, played at Syracuse in 1932, taking the lone matchup at Archbold Stadium 16-6.
2. Bounce Back
The Orange are coming off a loss against Duke last time out. A hallmark of head coach Fran Brown's early tenure has been his teams' ability to bounce back the following week. Syracuse has won all-four games its played following a loss thus far in Brown's tenure. Including his time as an assistant coach, Brown has now lost back-to-back games since the 2021 season.
3. Every 'Cuse Click Counts
Saturday's game will air on ACC Network at 3:30 p.m. It's also available on the ESPN app.
There are more ways than ever that fans can have a direct financial impact on Syracuse Athletics, one of which is by making sure you watch every game you can't attend. Television ratings now have an impact on revenue distribution in the ACC. Make sure you're always watching the Orange, whether from the Dome or at home, because Every 'Cuse Click Counts.
4. Deep in the Heart of Texas
Some of Syracuse's stars will have a homecoming of sorts this weekend, returning to their home state this weekend.
Wide receivers Johntay Cook (DeSoto) and Darrell Gill Jr. (Atascocita) and running back Will Nixon (Midway), plus key reserves in offensive lineman Byron Washington (DeSoto) and quarterback Luke Carney (Dallas Christian) all played their high school football in Texas.
5. Back in the Loud House After the Bye
Syracuse has its first-of-two bye weeks this season next week. The Orange will return home Oct. 18 to host Pitt on Orange Central Weekend. Tickets are available at Cuse.com/footballtickets.
