Orange Fall to #6 Stanford at Home

The Syracuse University volleyball team (11-5, 3-3 ACC) fell to No. 6 Stanford (14-3, 5-1 ACC) in straight sets on Sunday afternoon at the Women's Building, 25-15, 25-16, 25-12. The Cardinal dominated the service line, posting 10 aces to the Orange's one.
Skylar George led Syracuse with 12 kills while Gabby McLaughlin added seven kills and eight digs. Tehya Maeva distributed 18 assists and Rana Yamada anchored the defense with 15 digs.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Syracuse jumped out to an early 10-7 lead in the opening set behind three consecutive kills from George and McLaughlin. However, Stanford's Elia Rubin ignited a decisive run with three consecutive service aces, helping the Cardinal reel off a scoring run to take control. Stanford added three more aces during Stanford's surge as the Orange struggled with serve receive. Stanford closed out the set 25-15 with an 18-5 run.
The Orange showed resilience early in the second set, with Reese Teves recording a service ace to give Syracuse a 2-0 lead. The set remained competitive through the midway point, tied at 9-9, before Stanford pulled away. Lizzy Andrew recorded three kills during a 6-2 Cardinal run that pushed the lead to 15-11. George kept Syracuse within striking distance with five kills in the set, but Stanford's offense remained efficient and hit .417 to close out the frame, 25-16.
The Orange once again battled with one of the nation's top teams in set three. Syracuse kept things close, with Stanford holding a slim 8-7 lead to start. Yet, the Cardinal would finish on a 17-5 run to close out the match with a 25-12 win in set three.Â
NOTES AND HIGHLIGHTS
- Skylar George led Syracuse with 12 kills on a .171 hitting percentage. This is her ninth double-digit kill performance of the season.
- Gabby McLaughlin posted seven kills and eight digs.
- Tehya Maeva recorded 18 assists.
- Rana Yamada led the defense with 15 digs.
- Reese Teves contributed 12 digs and one ace.
- Syracuse was limited to a .071 team hitting percentage.
- Stanford recorded 10 service aces compared to Syracuse's one.
