The Syracuse University Volleyball team has officially announced its incoming freshman class. The newcomers include Charis Burge, Kiera Hagler, Queen Howse, Aileen McAllister, and Shaye Teves.
Â
Burge, a 5-foot-11 setter from Frederick, Maryland, joins the Orange after playing for Metro Vollyeball Club of DC for seven seasons. She helped lead the club to a GJNC third-place finish this past season. Burge was also invited to the Under Armor Next All American Camp as well as being named to the Prep Volleyball Watchlist. At the high school level, Burge was named All-County First Team as a junior and senior and added a Second Team honor as a freshman.Â
Â
A native of Birmingham, Alabama, and standing 5-foot-11, Hagler will look to add a presence at the net for the Orange. Hagler competed for the Calera High School Eagles while also competing with Alabama Performance and Peach City Volleyball Club in the club circuit.
Â
Howse comes to Syracuse from Brentwood, Tennessee, and is the lone defensive specialist joining the incoming class. Howse spent time with the Tennessee Performance Volleyball Club, serving as a team captain and finishing second at AAU Nationals. She was the libero for Brentwood High School, helping lead the team to a 29-6 record. Howse racked up several honors at the high school and club level, being named an All-District and All-Region First Teamer as a senior as well as an AVCA All-Region honoree in the same year.
Â
A native of Yokosuka, Japan, McAllister will come to the Orange to reinforce the Orange's outside hitters. McAllister competed for Yokohama Hayato High School and won each Kanagawa Prefectural Tournaments while reaching the top eight in all Japan Championships. She has racked up honors, being named the Outstanding Player of the Inter High National Championships by the Japan Volleyball Association. She was also named to the Japan Under-17 National Team.
Â
Teves rounds out the class as a 5-foot-7 setter from Waipahu, Hawaii. Shaye is the younger sister of current Orange defensive specialist Reese Teves. The Hawaii native competed with 808 Athletic Club where she most recently won the MVP of the Women's A Division at the 65th Annual Haili Tournament.
