
Penn State Tops 'Cuse

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The Syracuse Women's Ice Hockey team suffered a setback loss 11-2 to #6 Penn State at Pegula Ice Arena Saturday afternoon.
Syracuse (6-9-0) started the afternoon with an early Rylee McLeod goal in the first but the defense could not stop the Penn State offense. Celia Wiegand managed to find the back of the net during a five-on-three power play to keep the Orange in the game in the second. Ava Drabyk and Maika Paquin split time in goal, accumulating 31 saves between them.
Penn State (13-0-0) had three multi-goal players who scored two goals each: Mikah Keller, Katelyn Roberts, and Maddy Christian. Katie DeSea was in goal for the Nittany Lions where she had 12 saves.

How it Happened
- The Orange struck first early with a McLeod unassisted goal to give 'Cuse the lead at 1:17 in the first.
- The Nittany Lions would score four goals in the first to answer the early Syracuse lead.
- Wiegand gave the offense a push when she placed the puck in the back of the net 5:47 into the second, assisted by Emma Gnade and Peyton Armstrong during a five-on-three power play advantage.
- From there it was all Penn State, scoring seven unanswered goals in the second and third periods.
Behind the Numbers
- Wiegand, Rachel Walsh, and Jessica Cheung all had two blocks each on defense.
- Goal scored McLeod had the most shots in the afternoon with three.
