
Orange Topped by NC State

The Syracuse University volleyball team (13-13, 5-11 ACC) dropped a four-set decision to NC State (13-13, 6-10 ACC) on Sunday afternoon at the Women's Building. The Wolfpack took the match 3-1 (20-25, 25-20, 26-24, 25-18) despite a strong opening set from the Orange.
Syracuse was led by Sydnie Waller, who posted a match-high .538 hitting percentage with 15 kills on just 26 attempts. Gabby McLaughlin added 16 kills and 15 digs for the Orange, while Tehya Maeva distributed 40 assists. Rana Yamada anchored the defense with 28 digs.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Syracuse came out strong in the opening set, building momentum behind a powerful attack led by McLaughlin. The senior captain posted six kills in the set to help secure the opening set win. The Orange pulled away late to take the first set 25-20, hitting .306 as a team.
NC State evened the match with a 25-20 win of their own in the second set. The Wolfpack took control early, jumping to a 7-2 lead. Despite cutting the deficit to 22-19 late, Syracuse was unable to recover. Skylar George had four kills in the second set.
The Orange jumped out to a commanding lead in the third set, going on a 5-0 run with McLaughlin controlling serve. Syracuse eventually built a 20-13 lead, but the Wolfpack stormed back to take the set, 26-24.
In the fourth set, NC State built a 6-1 advantage early. Syracuse fought back to tie it at 6-6 and again at 12-12, but the Wolfpack closed on a 7-1 run to seal the match 25-18.
NOTES AND HIGHLIGHTS
- Sydnie Waller led all players with a .538 hitting percentage, recording 15 kills on 26 attempts with just one error.
- Gabby McLaughlin posted 16 kills and 15 digs.
- Rana Yamada anchored the defense with 28 digs.
- Tehya Maeva distributed 40 assists and added 16 digs.
- Skylar George contributed 13 kills and 16 digs.
- Piper Willinger recorded a service ace in limited action.

Syracuse is back on the road next weekend with tilts against Pitt and SMU up next. The match against Pitt will start at 7:00 p.m. on Friday while the SMU matchup is set for a 1:00 p.m. start on Sunday.
