Â
Syracuse (3-8, 1-6 ACC) was unable to recover from an early deficit as the Fighting Irish (9-2) pulled ahead in the early stages of the game to put the Orange away. The game marked Syracuse's fourth matchup this season against a College Football Playoff participant from last year, none of which were played in Syracuse.
 Â
Despite the loss, freshman quarterback Joseph Filardi posted career bests in passing yards with 83 and completions with 14. Filardi also found some success on the ground, rushing for a new career-best 33 yards and scored the Orange's lone touchdown. Will Nixon shouldered much of the load in the running game, finishing with 33 yards. The Syracuse offense finished with 207 yards of total offense, 112 coming on the ground.
Â
Tight end Dan Villari continued to climb the Syracuse record books, recording five receptions to bring his season total to 38 – the fourth-most by a tight end in a season in Syracuse history. The five receptions amounted to 30 yards to bring his season total to 409 yards, which is the seventh-most by a Syracuse tight end in a season.
Notre Dame rushed for 329 yards, paced by Jeremiyah Love's 171 yards and three touchdowns. The Fighting Irish added three scores on defense and special teams as well.
Â
The Orange will wrap up the regular season next week when they take on Boston College at the JMA Wireless Dome. The game is set for a 3 p.m. kickoff and will air on The CW. Tickets are available at Cuse.com/footballtickets.
Â
Davion Kerr returned the opening kickoff to the Syracuse 41-yard line, but the Orange couldn't capitalize. Notre Dame's Jalen Stroman intercepted Filardi and returned it for a touchdown to open the scoring. On the ensuing possession, the Fighting Irish defense picked up a three-and-out then blocked the punt and returned it for a score, taking a quick 14-0 lead. Moments later, Leonard Moore picked off Filardi and ran it back to the end zone for another defensive touchdown, extending Notre Dame's advantage to 21-0.
Â
The Orange offense struggled to find its rhythm. The Fighting Irish capitalized as Love broke free for a 45-yard rushing touchdown, followed by Jadarian Price ripping off a 58-yard scoring run on the following possession late in the first quarter.
Â
Notre Dame added two more touchdowns in the early stages of the second quarter, including Love's second score, to build a commanding 49-0 lead. The Syracuse defense held Notre Dame scoreless for the remainder of the half, as the Orange trailed 49-0 heading into the break.
Â
Love kept the Fighting Irish rolling in the second half, scoring for a third time, coming on a 68-yard rushing touchdown on the third play of half. Notre Dame tacked on two more touchdowns early in the fourth quarter, giving the Fighting Irish a 70-0 lead.
Â
Filardi rushed for a six-yard touchdown in the final seconds of the game, bringing the final score to 70-7.
