Orange Welcome Miami and Florida State To Drumlins

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – After facing two top-10 ITA ranked ACC opponents last weekend, the No. 45 Syracuse women's tennis team (7-2, 0-2 ACC) is looking to bounce back Friday, Feb. 28 as they host Miami (1-4, 0-0 ACC) at 3 p.m. at Drumlins Country Club. The match will be steamed live on ACC Network Extra.

Following Friday's match, the Orange will welcome Florida State (9-1, 0-0 ACC) to Drumlins on Sunday, March 2 at 11 a.m.

ABOUT THE ORANGE

Syracuse is coming off a 10-11 campaign last spring. The Orange returned four players from last year's team this fall and welcomed two newcomers.
Miyuka Kimoto is back for her senior year with the Orange after racking up 11 doubles and 10 singles victories in the spring. She earned her first ACC Player of the Week Award last March and was tabbed No. 24 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's (ITA) preseason singles rankings.
Also back as a senior for the Orange is Shiori Ito, who checked in at No. 44 in the ITA's preseason doubles rankings alongside Kimoto. She has won 31 career dual singles contests and to go along with her 27 doubles victories.
Anastasia Sysoeva returns for her second year with 'Cuse as a junior. In her debut campaign last year, she finished with a 12-6 record in singles, which included six wins against ACC opponents.
Another returning junior for the Orange is Constance Levivier, who tallied six wins last spring across singles and doubles.
Syracuse welcomes two fresh faces this fall - Nelly Knezkova and Serafima Shastova. Knezkova earned All-Big West Second Team honors in singles last season at Hawaii, where she played the Nos. 1 and 2 positions. In her one year at Jacksonville State, Shastova won 12 singles contests on her way to earning First Team All-ASUN and ASUN Freshman of the Year honors.
Joining the Orange for the Spring season are two freshmen, Monika Wojcik and Haram Kim.
Head coach Younes Limam returns for his 11th season at the helm of the Orange. Jacqueline Calla is in her second season as an assistant coach.

THE LAST MATCH

The Orange opened conference play last weekend facing two top-10 ITA ranked teams: No. 3 North Carolina and No. 10 Duke. Each match resulted in a loss for the Orange.
Syracuse lost the doubles point in each match, which marked the second and third times this season the Orange have not won doubles.
Shastova and Wojcik defeated the No. 34 ranked duo on North Carolina, Tatum Evans and Theadora Rabman, at the No.3 position, 6-1.
Playing together for the first time this spring, Knezkova and Kimoto upset the ITA's No. 11 ranked duo pairing on Duke in doubles play Sunday at the No. 1 position. This win was the highest-ranked victory among all ACC doubles teams for the week.
Kimoto posted the lone top-10 singles win across the conference last week after defeating ITA's No.8 ranked opponent Irina Balus from Duke in singles play with a result of 7-5, 6-3 at the No.1 spot. Over the weekend, Kimoto faced four top 15 ITA ranked opponents.
Kimoto was named ACC women's tennis Player of the Week and earned Doubles Team of the Week with Knezkova as the conference announced its weekly awards on Tuesday.

SINGLES SUCCESS

Syracuse is 35-14 in singles in its first nine matches.
The Orange have at least six wins at five different singles positions.
Syracuse has won 35 sets in singles by either a 6-0, 6-1 or 6-2 score. Of Syracuse's 72 winning sets, 49% have come by those scores. Shastova has won a team-best eight sets by these scores.
Knezkova, Ito, and Wojcik are tied with a team-best six wins in singles. All six of Knezkova's wins have come from the Nos. 1 and 2 positions.
Ito, Levivier and Shastova have competed at three different singles positions this season.
Shastova is on a five-match winning streak since her first loss against Cornell in the season opener.

DOMINATING DOUBLES

Syracuse has played 11 different doubles pairings this season.
Knezkova, Kimoto and Sysoeva each have six doubles wins to pace the Orange.
The Orange are 14-5 in doubles since dropping the double point to James Madison on Jan. 25 and have won the doubles point in five out of seven matches since.
Overall, Syracuse is 17-8 in doubles play this season with 10 of 11 pairings having contributed at least one victory.
Kimoto and Knezkova earned ACC Doubles Team of the Week on Tuesday, Feb. 25.

FRESHMAN CONTRIBUTIONS

Syracuse freshmen Monika Wojcik and Haram Kim are 13-5 across doubles and singles this season.
Wojcik is 6-2 in singles and has won a pair of sets with a 6-0 score.
Kim made her college debut in the Fordham match, winning at No. 6 singles, 7-5, 6-3.
Wojick was awarded ACC Freshman of the Week on Feb. 4 after competing against Drexel. She won her first ever three-set singles match, 6-0, 4-6, 6-2.

SCOUTING MIAMI

The Hurricanes are 1-4 on the season without having played an ACC opponent. However, the Hurricanes lead the all-time series record against the Orange, 6-1.
Five out of eight players on Miami are freshmen.
The Orange have a 2-5 home record against the Hurricanes and lost 6-1 the last time they met.
Miami is coming off a 6-1 win against Kennesaw State.

SCOUTING FLORIDA STATE

Florida State has an overall record of 9-1 and are on a seven-match winning streak.
The Seminoles have won seven matches with a 4-0 result.
Syracuse is 4-1 at home against Florida State but falls short in the all-time series 5-7.
The Seminoles face Boston College for their first ACC matchup on Friday Feb. 28 before coming to Syracuse.

UP NEXT
The Orange travel to the west coast for a doubleheader against Stanford on Friday, March 7 at the Taube Tennis Center followed by a match against California on Saturday, March 8 in Berkeley, CA. Both match times are TBD.
