3/2/2025 7:41:00 PM | Track and Field
Benne Anderson and Trei Thorogood punched tickets to the finals and three others set new, or tied previous personal bests on day two of the ACC Indoor Track and Field Championships.
Anderson (mile) and Thorogood (60-meter dash) will join the members of the Orange entered in the 3,000-meter runs in competing on Monday in Louisville.
Anderson ran yet another sub-four minute mile, doing so with ease on Sunday. He was second in his heat with a gap to third and was able to pull up and jog through the line after having locked up an automatic spot in Monday's final. He finished in 3:59.28, which was the second-fastest time in the prelims, behind Notre Dame's Daelen Ackley (3:59.10), who was also in his heat. Drew Zundell also competed in the men's mile, finishing in 4:12.37, which was 37th overall.
Thorogood qualified on time into tomorrow's final of the 60-meter dash. He ran a time of 6.72 seconds, which was eighth overall in the prelims, to advance.
In the hurdles, Taleea Buxton tied her personal best, which she set at this meet last year. However, she narrowly missed the finals this time around, falling 0.04 seconds out of the eighth and final qualifying spot, taking 10th. Peyton Rollins (8.54 seconds) was 15th.
David Peters set a new PR in the men's 60-meter hurdles, with a time of 7.94 seconds, he also placed 10th to lead the Orange. Emanuel Joseph (7.96 seconds), suffered an unfortunate fall as he was crossing the finish line, preventing him from qualifying and earning him 11th place. Isaiah Lewis (7.99 seconds) was 13th, followed by Isaiah Hayes (8.38 seconds) in 20th.
Freshman Selma Anderson also set a personal best in her first conference track championships. She placed 12th in the mile with a time of 4:40.32.
Elijah Mallard started in the 400-meter dash, but pulled up shortly after the start and was unable to finish.
Action concludes on Monday, beginning at 12:10 p.m. in the men's mile. Thorogood will race at 1:30 p.m., followed by the women's and men's 3,000-meter runs at 2:20 and 2:55 p.m.
