The Syracuse football team was back in the Dome, with the AmeriCU Spring Game bookending a full day for Syracuse.
The football program, which officially opened the new Football Performance Center with a ribbon cutting ceremony, also had a block party on the quad with fan activities prior to kickoff.
For the game itself, the Blue team, coached by Michael Johnson, claimed victory 16-14, rallying late to defeat Nunzio Campanile's Orange squad that converted the first-two touchdowns of the contest.
Yasin Willis found the end zone first, part of a four carries for 34-yard effort in the game. The Blue squad was led on the ground by Jordan Montanez, who scored a touchdown and ran for 60 yards on 14 attempts.
Jakhari Williams converted the game's lone passing score for the Orange squad, a 22-yard pass to Emannuel Ross. The Orange team had two players record 64-yards receiving apiece (each on two catches), to lead the team in yards, as Justus Ross-Simmons and Darius Johnson tallied identical stat lines.
Jaylan Hornsby caught five passes for 112 yards for the Blue squad, a mark that led all receivers.
Freshman Demetres Samuel Jr. (Orange), Redshirt Freshman Ta'Ron Haile (Blue) and Nathan Nyandoro (Blue) tied for the team lead with five tackles apiece defensively. BJ Long and Jalil Martin each came away with picks, while Isaiah Hastings and Nyandoro posted sacks.
Syracuse will conclude spring practice next week. Visit Cuse.com/Tickets to secure your seats for the real thing and be part of the action.
