WASHINGTON, D.C. – Entering the penultimate weekend of the 2025 regular season, two Syracuse University men's lacrosse standouts earned a spot among the top 25 players in college lacrosse as The Tewaaraton Foundation announced its Tewaaraton Nominees for this season.
Juniors Billy Dwan III and Joey Spalllina were named among the 25 players selected as Tewaaraton Nominees. One-third of the 25 Tewaaraton Nominees announced play in the Atlantic Coast Conference, while Dwan is one of six defensemen named to the list.
Dwan, who hails from Lutherville, Maryland, is currently ranked third on the team in caused turnovers, forcing 10 opponent miscues. He has grabbed 19 ground balls as well. A threat in transition, Dwan has picked up three points this year on two goals and one assist, all while starting in every game at close defense. A Preseason All-ACC selection, Dwan was named Honorable Mention on Inside Lacrosse's Division I Midseason All-America list.
Now a two-time Tewaaraton Award Nominee, Spallina leads the Orange offensive production with 61 total points on 27 goals and 34 assists. The Mount Sinai, New York is scoring at a 34.2 percent rate, and is currently ranked seventh in the ACC with 2.25 goals per game, first in the conference with 2.83 assists per game, and leads in points per game at 5.08. Spallina has the two highest single-game point totals this year with 11 (5g, 6a) against No. 20 Colgate and another 10 (5g, 5a) against Vermont.
The No. 8/No. 7 Orange return to ACC action on Saturday, April 19 with a 2 p.m. showdown at No. 13/No. 12 Duke. Game time is set for 2 p.m. on ACC Network with Chris Cotter and Quint Kessenich live at Koskinen Stadium. Tim Leonard '20 and Kyle Fetterly '09 will have the call locally on radio for TK99/105, and on the Syracuse Sports Network, Cuse.com, The Varsity App, and TuneIn App. WAER will also be on hand for Saturday's ACC showdown.
