THE GAME
- It's back to conference play the rest of the way for Syracuse as the No. 8/No. 7 Orange head for Durham, North Carolina to take on No. 13/No. 12 Duke Saturday afternoon on ACC Network.
- These teams split their two meetings last season as Syracuse topped Duke 10-4 in the JMA Wireless Dome before the Blue Devils got the better of the Orange in Charlotte at the ACC Tournament.
- Syracuse is looking to rebound after falling against top-ranked Cornell last weekend on Long Island to wrap up nonconference play. The Orange finished noncon action with a 7-3 record, picking up four wins against top-20 teams.
- Duke is coming off a one-goal loss against longtime rival and crosstown foe North Carolina. The homestanding Blue Devils led 5-3 at halftime but a 4-1 fourth quarter from North Carolina was enough separation for the win.
- Syracuse is looking to improve to 3-0 in ACC play this season while hunting a second road win in conference action.
- The Blue Devils are 6-2 at Koskinen Stadium this season, but haven't won at home since March 12 against Providence, though Duke has played at home just once in that span.
- ACC Network will be on hand for Saturday's game will Chris Cotter and Quint Kessenich on the call.
- Tim Leonard '20 (play-by-play) and Kyle Fetterly '09 (analyst) take to the airwaves on Syracuse Sports Network and TK99/105 locally, Cuse.com, The Varsity App, and TuneIn App, as well as Syracuse University student-radio station WAER.
ACC GOALS BY PERIOD
- Syracuse currently leads the ACC with a total of 176 goals scored this season, ahead of Saturday's opponent, Duke, with 161, which ranks second in the ACC.
- The Orange have been especially dominant in the second period, where they have outscored their opponents by a margin of +28 (47-19).
- Virginia heading into the second half is -10 in the 3rd and -7 in the 4th.Â
- Duke currently holds a margin of -2 for the 4th period while the Orange are +11
- This season, Syracuse has 68 more total goals than their opponents, including 95 in the first half and 86 in the back 30 minutes.
THE DUKE SERIES
- Syracuse and Duke will meet for the 26th time since 1938, with the Orange leading 15-10 across the series.
- The Orange hold a 6-5 lead in ACC games, including last year's 10-4 win at the JMA Wireless Dome.
- Syracuse is looking for its first win in Durham since the 2018 season when it picked up a 15-14 win, though the Orange have visited Koskinen Stadium just twice since then, falling by a combined four goals in those two games.
- Syracuse is 6-4 in the last 10 meetings with Duke, but the Blue Devils have won three of the last four tilts.
- The Orange won the first-ever meeting between these teams, a 17-5 victory in Durham on April 16, 1938.
A WIN ON SATURDAY WOULD...
- Bump Syracuse's ACC record to 3-0, the first time the Orange get to 3-0 in league play since going 4-0 in 2018.
- Be the fourth-straight ACC win for Syracuse, dating back to last spring with wins over UNC and UVA.
- Log the 10th win of the season for Syracuse, marking back-to-back seasons with double digit wins for the first time since winning at least 10 from 2013-2017.
- Mark the sixth win over a top 20 team this season, matching last season's total including the postseason.
- See the Orange win a game at Duke for the first time since 2018 (only two games at Koskinen since).
- Be the first time Syracuse beats Duke in back-to-back seasons since winning four straight from 2016 to 2019.
- Be the 958th win in program history, second-most among Division I programs.
