Quarterback Kyle McCord, who re-wrote the Atlantic Coast Conference and Syracuse football record books in his lone season with the Orange, is headed to the Super Bowl Champions.
McCord was picked by the Philadelphia Eagles in the sixth round. The Eagles are McCord's hometown team, growing up in Mt. Laurel, New Jersey and playing his high school ball at St. Joseph's Prep.
He's the second Orange player selected, after tight end Oronde Gadsden II was picked one round earlier by the Los Angeles Chargers.
He's the first Orange quarterback selected in the draft since Ryan Nassib was picked in the fourth round of the 2013 draft.
McCord spent his senior season with the Orange after transferring from Ohio State and immediately made his mark as one of the best signal callers to ever play in the Dome. His 4,779 passing yards not only led the nation, but set a new ACC record, usurping a bevvy of first round picks, Heisman Trophy winners and NFL stars.
In addition to his passing yard record, McCord set new program records for touchdowns responsible for (37), total offense (4,714 yards), touchdown passes (34), completions (391), passing yards per game (367.6) and attempts (592).
Despite spending just one season with the Orange, he departs Syracuse as the career record holder for total offense per game (362.6), passing yards per game (367.6) and yards per play (7.15). He is seventh on the career touchdown passes list (34), second In passing efficiency (148.8), second in completion percentage (66.0-percent), eighth in passing yards (4,779) and seventh in completions (391).
McCord finished 10th in Heisman Trophy voting after leading the Orange to its third 10-win season since 2000. He's the first Syracuse player to finish in the top-10 of Heisman voting since Dwight Freeney in 2001.
More names, in addition to Gadsden and McCord, are expected to get the call on Saturday. The NFL Draft continues on ESPN, ABC and NFL Network.
