The Syracuse football team will play its most anticipated season opener in recent memory, and one of the nation's premier Week 1 contests on Aug. 30, and 'Cuse fans need to act soon to make sure they don't miss this marquee matchup.
The deadline for fans to guarantee their spot in Syracuse sections for the Aflac Kickoff Game vs. Tennessee in Atlanta is July 31. If you're looking for lodging, join Syracuse Athletics at the Atlanta Mariott Emory, or peruse other lodging options at Cuse.com/AflacKickoff.
The Aflac Kickoff Game features a showdown of two teams that finished last season inside the Associated Press' Top-20. It's one of only three Week 1 games that features two teams that were both ranked at the end of last season. Kickoff is set for Noon on ABC.
Syracuse is coming off its best season in recent memory, in the first season of head coach Fran Brown. He led the Orange to a 10-3 record and victory in the DIRECTV Holiday Bowl behind the nation's most prolific passing attack. Twelve players off last year's roster are currently in the NFL, but a bevvy of stars are up next, as Brown has landed Syracuse's two-highest rated recruiting classes in program history (since the advent of recruiting service rankings) and added more than a dozen impact transfers.
Tennessee made their first appearance in the College Football Playoff a year ago, also finishing 10-3 on the season after losing in the first round to eventual champion Ohio State. The Vols were ranked ninth in the final AP Poll.
This will be the fourth meeting between the two schools and first since 2001. The series has been played tightly, despite Tennessee owning the series advantage 3-0. Two of the three prior meetings have been decided by one possession.
