CHARLOTTE, N.C. – With just over a week between the Syracuse University field hockey team and the 2025 season, the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) has announced its annual Preseason All-ACC Field Hockey Team and its Preseason Coaches Poll.
Graduate student center back Bo van Kempen was selected to the Preseason All-ACC Field Hockey Team while the Orange were picked fifth in the Preseason Coaches Poll.
A First-Team All-ACC and NFHCA All-America selection a year ago, van Kempen led Syracuse with 33 points thanks to 15 goals. Anchoring one of the best penalty corner units in the league, van Kempen scored 13 of her goals on the APC. Her other two goals came thanks to a two-for-two season on penalty strokes. The Zevenaar, Netherlands product ranked second in Division I with nine game-winning goals last season and was eighth in defensive saves, which landed her second in the ACC.
The Orange, who went 13-7 overall last year, reaching the ACC Semifinals and earning an at-large berth to the NCAA Division I Field Hockey Tournament, received 46 points in the Preseason Coaches Poll. North Carolina was predicted to finish first with 77 points and six of the nine first-place votes, with Duke picking up two top selections and 67 total points. Virginia and Boston College were third and fourth, respectively. The Cavaliers had 63 points while the Eagles had 56, including a first-place selection.
Syracuse wraps up its preseason exhibition schedule on Friday against Vermont. Game time is set for noon at J.S. Coyne Stadium. The 2025 season officially kicks off on Friday, August 29 with a 5 p.m. game at Coyne Stadium against Lock Haven. Opening weekend concludes on Sunday, August 31 with a 1 p.m. game against Fairfield.
