From the Start
- Syracuse field hockey is back on the road this weekend after going undefeated last weekend against No. 16 Rutgers and No. 13 Ohio State in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge in Columbus.
- The Orange jumped six spots to a top five ranking for the first time since Sept. 12, 2017.
Syracuse opens play against Princeton at Bedford Field on Friday (5 p.m.) before squaring off against Lafayette at Rappolt Field on Sunday at noon.Â
- Both games will be streamed on ESPN+.Â
- This (fingers crossed) marks the first trip to Lafayette for the Orange since 2004. The previously scheduled match at Rappolt Field in 2023 was cancelled due to weather.Â
With a Win Friday
- The Orange would win their fifth game in a row, tying for the best opening mark for head coach Lynn Farquhar as a head coach at Syracuse.Â
- Syracuse would improve to 14-13-0 all-time against Princeton since the series began in 1988.
- Syracuse has won its last three matchups against Princeton in 2022, 2023 and 2024.Â
- The Orange would defeat their third ranked opponent in a row, with wins over No. 16 Rutgers (2-0) and No. 11 Ohio State (2-1 2OT).
Against the Ranks
- Friday's game at No. 11 Princeton will be the third time already in 2025 Syracuse takes on a top inside the top 20 of the NFHCA Coaches Poll.
- In head coach Lynn Farquhar's first season at the helm (2023) the Orange won four games against ranked teams.
- Last fall, the Orange won six of their 13 games against ranked teams, including a 4-2 stretch in the midseason that included a three-game winning streak against the top 20.
- As a head coach, Farquhar has won 24 games against ranked teams.
- With a win on Friday, it would tie the longest run of ranked wins for Farquhar at either Syracuse or her previous stop at Saint Joseph's. In addition to the three-game run in 2024, Farquhar guided the Hawks to three straight ranked wins in the heart of the 2017 season.
Vaulting Up The Charts
- This week, Syracuse jumped up to the number five spot in the NFHCA Coaches Poll.
The six-spot jumped was bolstered by  two top 20 wins over the weekend against No. 16  Rutgers and No. 13 Ohio State, ranked 16th and 13th.Â
- With its 161 points this week, the Orange moved back into the top five for the first time since Sept. 12, 2017 when Syracuse was ranked third in Division I.
- Across the 2025 season, Syracuse will face eight opponents ranked in this week's poll: No. 2 North Carolina, No. 3 Virginia, No. 4 Boston College, No. 6 Duke, No. 11 Princeton, No. 12 Ohio State, No. 17 Penn State, and No. 18 Rutgers.
- Northwestern claimed the top spot again this week with 218 points and nine of the 11 first-place votes. North Carolina had the remaining top selections with 211 points. Virginia was third with 195 points with Boston College picked up 171 points for fourth.
Road Warriors
- The Orange are in the midst of a four-game road swing
- After picking up two wins at home to open the season, Syracuse grabbed another pair of wins in Columbus, Ohio against a pair of top 20 opponents.
- With this weekend's games at No. 11 Princeton and at Lafayette, the Orange will play their third and fourth straight games away from J.S. Coyne Stadium.
- This marks a third-straight year the Orange will play four regular season games in a row away from the friendly confines. Last fall, the Orange went 2-2 in a four-game span at North Carolina(L) , Longwood (W), Wake Forest (W) and Duke (shootout loss).
- In head coach Lynn Farquhar's first season (2023), the Orange had a four-game road swing at No. 16 Penn State (W), No. 12 Boston College (2OTW), No. 14 Harvard (L), and Princeton (W).
- Technically the longest run of games away from home in the Farquhar Era was a five-game run between her first and second seasons. Between the 2023 ACC Tournament, 2023 NCAA Tournament, and the opening weekend in 2024, the Orange went 3-2 in that span with results at No. 4 Virginia (L), Liberty (OTW), at Duke (L), at Lock Haven (W) and at No. 16 Penn State (W).
