
Aouani Earns Bronze at World Championships

Syracuse alum Iliass Aouani took bronze at the World Championships in Tokyo in the marathon.
The two-time ACC champion and 10-time all-conference honoree between cross country and track qualified and competed for his home country of Italy at the event.
Auoani finished the event in 2:09.53, just five seconds behind winner Alphonce Felix Simbu of Tanzania. Aouani entered the race ranked 110th in the IAAF world rankings in the marathon.Â
The 2019 grad completed his senior season by earning Honorable Mention All-America honors in the 10k at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships. He swept both the ACC 5k and 10k races at the conference meet earlier that season.
