From the Start
- A four game road trip is in the rearview mirror and it's a five-game homestand through the windshield as the Orange return to J.S. Coyne Stadium this weekend to open ACC play.
- Two top-20 battles await the Orange, leading off Friday night with No. 20 Wake Forest for a 5 p.m. start and wrapping up the weekend on Sunday with a noon game against No. 3 Virginia.
- The Orange moved up one spot in this week's NFHCA Coaches Poll, picking up the number for spot as Syracuse moved to 6-0 for the first time since 2017.
- Syracuse comes home from the aforementioned four-game road trip with a clean slate, picking off three top-20 opponents along the way, averaging 2.5 goals per game along the way while allowing less than a goal per game with two clean sheets in the mix.
- This weekend opens a heavyweight slate for the Orange, all at the friendly confines of J.S. Coyne Stadium as Syracuse hosts four-straight top 20 teams: No. 20 Wake, No. 3 Virginia, No. 7 Duke, and No. 16 Penn State before rounding out with Colgate on Oct. 3.
Versus The Top 5
- This weekend marks the fourth and fifth games for the Orange against top 20 teams this season as Syracuse enters with a 3-0 mark against ranked teams.
- Sunday will be the first time Syracuse plays in a game with two top five teams since the No. 4 Orange hosted No. 2 Duke on October 7, 2016, a 5-1 Syracuse win.
- Since joining the ACC for the 2013 season, the Orange are 10-6 in games featuring top five teams, including a 6-1 mark in 2015 en route to the national championship.
- As a member of the ACC, Syracuse is 3-0 against the Cavaliers in games with both teams ranked in the top five, winning 4-1 in 2013, and two wins in 2015 of 3-1 and 3-2, the second of which was in the ACC Semifinals in Charlottesville.
With a Win Friday
- The Orange would win its seventh game in a row, equaling the best opening mark since 2017 when Syracuse opened the year with seven straight shutouts.
- Syracuse would improve to 10-8 all-time against Wake Forest, winning back-to-back games for the first time since four straight victories from 2019 to 2021.
- Bump the Orange to 3-0 at home this year, the best opening start since opening 4-0 in 2023, head coach Lynn Farquhar's first season at the helm.
- Pick up a fourth top-20 win this season, which would tie North Carolina for the most top 20 wins in the ACC this year.
- Syracuse would win its first top 20 game at home since picking off No. 18 Cal 2-1 in overtime on Oct. 13, 2024. The Orange have played on top 20 teams since then, falling 1-0 in the 2024 home finale to No. 9 Boston College.
Against the Ranks
- Friday's game against No. 20 Wake Forest will be the fourth time this year Syracuse takes on a top inside the top 20 of the NFHCA Coaches Poll.
- In head coach Lynn Farquhar's first season at the helm (2023) the Orange won four games against ranked teams. The 'Cuse is off to a 3-0 start against ranked teams in 2025.
- Last fall, the Orange won six of their 13 games against ranked teams, including a 4-2 stretch in the midseason that included a three-game winning streak against the top 20.
- As a head coach, Farquhar has won 25 games against ranked teams including last weekend's 1-0 thriller at Princeton.
- With a win on Friday, it would be the longest run of ranked wins for Farquhar at either Syracuse or her previous stop at Saint Joseph's. In addition to the three-game run this season and another in 2024, Farquhar guided the Hawks to three straight ranked wins in the heart of the 2017 season.
- Teams that feature Farquhar as an assistant coach or as a head coach are currently 5-1 against teams ranked 20th. This marks the first time in her head coach tenure the Orange face a team ranked 20th.
- Farquhar-coached teams are 7-7 against teams ranked third and are currently on a three-game winning streak with road wins at UConn and Boston College in 2019 and 2021, respectively. Last season, Syracuse picked off third-ranked Virginia 1-0 in the ACC Tournament quarterfinals in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
