BERKELEY, CALIF.- The Orange defeated California (4-4-2, 1-2-1) 2-0 to win their first ACC match of the season. Goals from Garrett Holman and Chimere Omeze in the second half improved the Orange's record to 4-4-2 (1-2-0).

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The first half of the match was a defensive battle, as both goal keepers recorded three saves each.

The Orange had a free kick opportunity inside the box in the 34th minute. Nathan Scott took the shot, but the ball was blocked by the wall of California defenders to keep Syracuse from scoring, sending both teams scoreless into the half.

Syracuse found the chance to score first early in the second half as it was awarded a free kick in the 48th minute, but the attempt was unsuccessful in finding the back of the net.

In the 65th minute, an Orange throw in towards the goal box was touched by Ernest Mensah Jr., setting it up for Garrett Holman to put the ball past the Bears' goalie.

Minutes later in the 70th minute, Gavin Wigg threw in the ball towards the net, finding Chimere Omeze, who headed the ball off the pipe and straight down into the net.

OF NOTE:

The Orange were outshot its opponent recording 14 shots compared to the Bears' 11.
Goalkeeper Tomas Hut collected a career-high seven saves.
California took more corner kicks, tallying seven compared to Syracuse's two.

UP NEXT:
Following the match, the Orange will look to welcome Boston College to Central New York on Friday Oct. 3. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m. and the match will feature Otto's Kid Club promotions.
