
Orange Drop Sunday Matinee Against #6 Louisville

The Syracuse University Volleyball team (9-3, 1-1 ACC) fell to #6 Louisville (10-2, 2-0 ACC) in straight sets on Sunday afternoon at L&N Federal Credit Union Arena. The Orange's offensive output improved over the course of the match but were ultimately bested by the Cardinals.
Gabriella McLaughlin led the Orange with 8 kills and added 8 digs. Tehya Maeva recorded 12 assists and 10 digs while adding 3 service aces. Skylar George contributed 5 kills and 4 digs, while Sydnie Waller added 5 kills of her own.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Louisville took control early in the first set, building a commanding lead behind a .516 hitting percentage. The Orange struggled to get in a rhythm in the early going as the Cardinals took the opener, 25-8.
Syracuse bounced back in the second set with improved offensive execution. McLaughlin and George led the offense as the Orange posted 10 kills in the frame. Louisville pulled away late, though, as the Orange fell in the second set, 17-25.
The Orange went point-for-point with the Cardinals in the third set, putting one of the nation's top teams on the ropes. Maeva provided a crucial spark with three consecutive service aces during a key stretch to give the Orange a 12-9 lead. Waller contributed a couple of timely kills to keep Syracuse within striking distance down the stretch. Yet, Louisville ultimately pulled away to take set three, 25-20.

UP NEXT
The Orange will keep their ACC schedule rolling next weekend as they get set to head to Virginia. They'll start with Virginia Tech at 6:00 PM on Friday before taking on Virginia at 1:00 PM on Sunday. Both matches will air on ACNNX.
