From the Start
- Time to hit the road for Syracuse field hockey as the No. 11 Orange head for Central Ohio for the ACC/Big Ten Challenge this weekend.
- The Orange take on two top-20 Big Ten opponents at Buckeye Varsity Field, leading off with No. 16 Rutgers on Friday (1 p.m.) before taking on host No. 13 Ohio State on Sunday (2 p.m.).

- This will be Syracuse's first foray into the ACC/Big Ten Challenge since joining the Atlantic Coast Conference in 2013.Â
- The Orange are coming off a hot start to the 2025 season, picking off Lock Haven 15-0 Friday before dispatching Fairfield 5-2 on Sunday.
- Sunday's game against the Buckeyes features two of the most explosive offenses in the early stages of the season sees a Syracuse team that averages a national-best 10.0 goals per game against an Ohio State team that boasts 8.00 goals per game, tied for second in the country.
With a Win Friday
- Syracuse would win its third game in a row, the best opening stretch of games under head coach Lynn Farquhar since her first year at the helm, going 5-0 to open 2023.
- The Orange would win back-to-back games over the Scarlet Knights for the first time since claiming 11 straight wins from 2004-2017, a majority of which came during the team's Big East rivalry days.
- Improve Syracuse to 3-1-0 against Big Ten teams under head coach Lynn Farquhar.
- Run Syracuse's neutral-site winning streak against Rutgers to four in a row, with the previous three wins coming in Storrs, Connecticut (2010), Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts (2001) and Boston, Massachusetts (1995). The Orange are 3-2-0 at neutral sites all-time against the Scarlet Knights.
Filling the Scoresheet
- The Syracuse offense was an unstoppable force during opening weekend, racking 20 goals against two games.
- 'Cuse leads the country in goals per game, averaging a heft 10.0 an outing while average 31.0 points per game, also a national best.
- Bo van Kempen, later named ACC Offensive Player of the Week, scored nine goals in those two games against Lock Haven and Fairfield, including six against Lock Haven, a program record and the most for an ACC Player since at least 2017.Â
- Pati Strunk stamped her name in the Syracuse record books as well, dishing out six assists against Lock Haven.Â
- Despite the 15-0 outcome, it was not a school record for goals in a game; Syracuse buried 16 goals against Big East foe Georgetown during the 2008 regular season.
- Nearly half of the Syracuse roster provided points during opening weekend as 12 different Orange tallied at least one point over the weekend.
Protect Coyne
- Like a bank vault, you have to protect the Coyne.
- The Orange are off to a clean start for the 2025 season, going 2-0 during opening weekend.
- Under head coach Lynn Farquhar, Syracuse is 12-5 at J.S. Coyne Stadium.Â
- The Orange went 6-2 at home last season thanks to back-to-back wins over Stanford and No. 18 California late in the season.
- Syracuse went 4-3 at J.S. Coyne Stadium in 2023, suffering its first home setback since the end of the 2021 season in the Virginia game.
- That double overtime loss against No. 6 Virginia in 2023 snapped a 13-game home winning streak at the midpoint of last season.
- Since the new surface at J.S. Coyne Stadium was installed in 2016, following the team's national championship, the Orange have amassed a 54-20 (.730) overall record at Coyne and hold a regular season record of 46-17 (.730).Â
- Syracuse has two perfect home regular seasons in that span: 9-0 in 2022 and 6-0 in 2016.
