SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Travis Owen has joined the Syracuse softball staff as an assistant coach, according to head coach Shannon Doepking. Owen brings more than 10 years of softball coaching experience at multiple levels to the position.Â
He spent the most recent three seasons as softball coach at Northwestern Ohio, an NAIA program. Owen guided the Racers to three consecutive 30-win seasons, including a program-record 35 triumphs this past spring. Northwestern Ohio also captured a team record-setting 17 conference victories in 2025. Among the team standards set during Owen's tenure were stolen bases (83), slugging percentage (.470), and on-base percentage (.374). Â
Owen was a coach and instructor at DBat San Antonio for a year where he developed athletes through high-attention training, nutrition and lifestyle plans, and individualized coaching.Â
He had a three-year tenure as coach at Division II Minnesota Crookston from 2019-21. The Golden Eagles more than doubled their win total from the previous season and set a program mark for triumphs in Owen's initial season at the helm. The squad set many team and individual standards.Â
From 2016-2018, Owen was the recruiting coordinator and lead hitting and pitching coach at Division I Northern Colorado. The Bears upped their win total each season and set a new program standard for Division I wins while Owen was a part of the staff.Â
Owen was the pitching coach at Division I Radford in 2015-16. The program made a 23-win improvement over the previous season and Owen was instrumental in helping the team earned-run-average drop significantly.Â
He added international softball to his resume in 2014-15 when Owen worked as coach and development officer of the Howick Softball Club in New Zealand.Â
His first head coaching position came at Division III Lyon in 2013-14. The Scots produced the third-best finish in program history with Owen in charge.Â
After spending the summer of 2010 as a sport performance intern in strength and conditioning at Louisville, Owen was a strength and conditioning graduate assistant at Northern State for the 2010-11 school Year. The following two seasons he was an assistant softball coach and adjunct instructor at Northern State.Â
Owen earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business from St. Louis in 2007. He received a Master's of Science degree in Coaching, Health and Physical Education from Northern State in 2007.Â
