Orange Wrestle Bearcats To Scoreless Draw
9/4/2025 9:40:00 PM | Women's Soccer
Goalkeeper Shea Vanderbosch made seven saves for Syracuse (3-1-3) while Binghamton (4-1-1) counterpart Rebecca Kessler made eight and the two squads battled to a 0-0 draw on Thursday night at the SU Soccer Stadium.
This result marked back-to-back scoreless draws for the Orange. This is the first time that Syracuse has faced back-to-back scoreless draws since 2007, when they recorded 0-0 results against East Carolina on Sept. 14 and Boston College on Sept. 16.Â
HOW THE MATCH WAS DECIDED
Syracuse had a chance late after a corner at the 89:30 mark. The Orange played in a testing ball, with midfielder Olivia Bozzo's subsequent header being blocked. The ball fell in the box and led to a wild goalmouth scramble, but the Bearcats were able to clear out the danger.
FIRST HALF CHANCESÂ
The Bearcats threatened to get on the board early when Bella Brown pinged a strike that Vanderbosch deflected off the crossbar at the 3:37 mark. However, the best chance of the match for the Orange came after 24 minutes. Graduate student Emma Klein redirected a brilliant cross onto the net, forcing a stunning save from Kessler. At the 38:11 mark, freshman Julia Arbelaez saw a right-footed curling effort hit the woodwork.Â
Binghamton, despite forcing six saves in the first half, was unable to get through a stalwart Syracuse back line.Â
A PAIR OF CLOSE CALLS
The Bearcats threatened to break the deadlock at the 58:05 mark. Forward Jahkaya Davis latched onto a pass from midfielder Anna Buckwalter just outside the box and fired towards net, just missing wide with her left-footed effort. The Orange responded at the 63:38 mark. Forward Mia Klammer played a nifty one-two pass with midfielder Gabby Wisbeck, picking up the ball on the left edge of the box. Klammer's right-footed effort was heading for the bottom right corner and forced an awkward save from Kessler.Â
MOVING ON UP
After recording seven more saves in the match, Vanderbosch now stands at 316 career saves. This leaves her in third place on the program's all-time career saves list, trailing only Courtney Brosnan (344) and Eliza Bennett-Hattan (331).
NOTABLE NUMBERS
Syracuse continues its home stand at the SU Soccer Stadium when it hosts Cornell on Sunday, Sept. 7, at 1:00 p.m.
