
Akane Hosoyamada to Represent Japan in Winter Olympics

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Former Syracuse University women's ice hockey player Akane Hosoyamada '15 was named to Team Japan as a defender for the upcoming 2026 Milano Cortina Olympic Winter Games.
This will be Hosoyamada's third Olympics as she represented Team Japan in the 2018 Pyeongchang and 2022 Beijing Winter Games where the team placed sixth, respectfully, in both games. Across her two Olympic campaigns she tallied five points (1G, 4A) in 12 games. Hosoyamada has been part of Team Japan since 2017.
Hosoyamada spent her collegiate career with the Orange and played five seasons after redshirtting her sophomore year. She played in 151 games and tallied 10 goals with 51 assists on the back line for 'Cuse.
Team Japan will begin Group play (Group B) against France on February 6. Japan will also face Germany, Italy, and Sweden in pool play. Playoffs begin February 13.
