
Syracuse Loses Close Contest to #4 Penn State

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Syracuse women's ice hockey team fell 3-2 to No. 4 Penn State Saturday afternoon at Tennity Ice Pavilion in a close season series finale.
Syracuse (12-13-3, 8-8-2 AHA) battled back from a two-goal deficit and outshot the Nittany Lions in the second period but ultimately came up short. Jackson Kinsler and Maya D'Arcy each scored for the Orange. Ava Drabyk made 34 saves in goal for the Orange.
Penn State (21-4-0, 15-1-0 AHA) earned the weekend sweep behind a pair of goals from Tessa Janecke. Madison Campbell made 31 saves in net for the Nittany Lions to secure the victory.
How it Happened
- Kinsler gave Syracuse an early 1-0 lead at 3:13 of the first period with an unassisted goal.
- Penn State responded with goals from Grace Outwater at 5:50 and Tessa Janecke on the power play at 11:51 to take a 2-1 lead after the first.
- D'Arcy capitalized on a power play at 5:44 in the second period, assisted by Celia Wiegand and Emma Gnade, to tie the game at 2-2.
- Janecke answered with an unassisted goal at 15:51, which proved to be the game-winner.
- Syracuse pressed for the equalizer in the final frame, generating seven shots including several chances with the extra attacker in the final minute. Despite the offensive push, the Orange were unable to find the back of the net.
Behind the Numbers
- Kinsler led the Orange with nine shots on goal and scored her fifth goal of the season.
- D'Arcy scored her first goal of the season on the power play.
- Sami Gendron and Rachel Walsh led the defensive effort with five blocked shots each.
- Tervonen won 13 of 20 faceoffs to pace the Orange in the circle and Emma Gnade won 10 of 19 in the circle.
