Syracuse University women's basketball freshman forward Uche Izoje has been named Atlantic Coast Conference Rookie of the Week for the fourth time this season, the league announced Monday. She is the first four-time ACC Rookie of the Week in Syracuse women's basketball history. Previously, Kamilla Cardoso held the SU record for ACC Rookie of the Week awards earning the honor three times during the 2020-21 season.
Izoje powered the Orange to a 2-0 week in ACC play, averaging 19.5 points and 14.5 rebounds while shooting an impressive 73.1 percent (19-for-26) from the field over 31.6 minutes per game.
The freshman standout recorded her fifth double-double of the season with a dominant 21-point, 17-rebound performance against Florida State, adding four blocks in the victory. She followed that with an 18-point, 12-rebound effort in Syracuse's road win at Wake Forest, giving her six double-doubles on the season.
Izoje continues to lead the ACC in field goal percentage (.646) and blocks per game (2.9), while ranking in the top 10 nationally in total blocks (5th, 43), blocks per game (6th, 2.9), and field goal percentage (7th). She is one of just two players in the country averaging over 13.0 points, 8.5 rebounds and 2.5 blocks per game this season, joining Kentucky's Clara Strack in that elite company.
The Orange return to action at home this Thursday when Syracuse hosts Virginia Tech at 6 p.m. at the JMA Wireless Dome.
