
The Orange Unable to Overcome RIT in Loss

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Syracuse women's ice hockey team lost to RIT 4-2 Saturday afternoon at Gene Polisseni Center after another strong offensive bout with the Tigers.
Syracuse (14-15-3, 10-10-2 AHA) saw a one-goal lead slip away as RIT capitalized on power play opportunities throughout the contest. Ava Drabyk made 31 saves in a losing effort.
RIT (15-16-0, 10-12-0 AHA) rallied behind strong performances from Linda Rulle, who scored twice on the power play, and Tilli Keraenen, who recorded a goal and two assists. Sophia Bellina made 22 saves in the start.
How it Happened
- RIT struck first at 4:36 of the opening period when Rulle scored on the power play, assisted by Addie Alvarez and Keraenen.
- Syracuse answered back in the second period when Stella Costabile tied the game at 9:54, assisted by Jackson Kinsler.
- The Orange took their first lead of the game at 16:30 of the second period when Nea Tervonen scored on the power play, with assists from Costabile and Rachel Walsh.
- The Tigers responded quickly, as Rulle netted her second power-play goal of the game at 19:37 of the second period, assisted by Alvarez and Keraenen.
- Keraenen scored the game-winner at 5:30 of the third period, with an assist from Alvarez.
- Ireland Stein added an empty-net goal at 19:30, assisted by Lily Andreassi, to seal the loss for Syracuse.
Behind the Numbers
- Costabile registered a goal and an assist, leading the Orange offense with two points and three shots on goal.
- Peyton Armstrong also had three shots on the day to lead the offense with Costabile.
- Sami Gendron anchored the defense with six blocked shots.
- 'Cuse dominated the faceoff circle behind Emma Gnade, Rylee McLeod, Makenna Williment, and Tervonen's efforts all winning more than 50% of draws.
