
Doty Returns to Central New York With Transfer to Syracuse

Gavin Doty, a native of nearby Fulton, N.Y., has accepted a written offer of athletic aid to Syracuse and will transfer to join the Orange.

A 6-5, 190-pound guard, Doty helped lead Siena to the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Tournament Championship and an NCAA Tournament berth. He reunites with Syracuse first-year coach Gerry McNamara, who was his coach at Siena for the past two seasons.

DOTY AT FULTON HIGH SCHOOL/PHELPS SCHOOL (Pa.)
Doty competed at Fulton High School, located northwest of Syracuse. He enrolled at Phelps School (Pa.) for his junior year before returning to Fulton for his senior campaign. In 2023-24, Doty broke the school's season (566) and career (1,424) scoring marks. He helped Fulton to the Section III semifinals. Doty averaged 28.3 points, 12.8 rebounds, 7.5 assists and 3.1 steals and posted seven triple doubles. Doty earned 2023-24 Class AA Third Team All-State, Salt City Athletic Conference Empire Division Player of the Year for the second time, and Palladium-Times Male Athlete of the Year recognition.

DOTY AT SIENA (2024-26)
In his freshman campaign at Siena, Doty was part of a team that produced a 10-win improvement from the previous year. He averaged 11.3 points and 6.1 rebounds per contest after appearing in all 32 games, including 17 as a starter. Doty was a unanimous selection to the All-MAAC Freshman Team after earning a league-best MAAC Rookie of the Week honors five times. He led MAAC freshmen in scoring (14.1 ppg.), rebounding (7.9 rpg.), field goal percentage (.480) and free throw percentage (.815) in conference play.

The Siena program made another jump this past season, producing a 23-12 record and, with Doty earning tournament most valuable player, capturing the MAAC Tournament. Siena made the school's first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2010. The Saints were paired with top-seeded Duke in the first round and pushed the Blue Devils to the limit before losing, 71-65. Doty finished the contest with 21 points. Doty contributed averages of 18.0 points, 6.9 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 1.3 steals per contest as a sophomore. He finished second in the MAAC in scoring (18.0 ppg.) and third in minutes-played average (36:46)

He was named 2026 First Team All-MAAC, First Team All-ECAC and First Team National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) North Atlantic District. Doty was a finalist for the 2025-26 CollegeInsider.com Lou Henson Award, presented each year to the top mid-major player.
