Four Orange Rowers Set for World Rowing U23 Championships in Germany

Syracuse rowing will be well-represented on the international stage later this week, as four Orange athletes head to Duisburg, Germany for the 2026 World Rowing U23 Championships. Rising senior Olivia Bachert will race in the 8+ for Team USA, going head-to-head with classmate Ella McKinley, who will compete in the same event for Team Canada. Meanwhile, Class of 2026 alumna Ellie-Kate Hutchinson and rising junior Acorn Cassidy will pair up in the 4- for Great Britain.

Bachert was a member of the 2V8 for much of her junior season before making the move to the V8 at the NCAA Championships to conclude the season. The V8 finished third in the petite final, placing them ninth nationally as a boat and helping the team finish ninth overall. Bachert is a native of Grosse Pointe Farms, Michigan.

McKinley spent her first season with the Orange in the 2V8 during the 2024-25 season. She helped her boat race to victories at the B1G/ACC/Ivy Dual and earn ACC Crew of the Week honors for the performance. She and the 2V8 finished second in the grand final of the ACC Championship and 12th overall at the 2025Â NCAA Championships. McKinley is a native of Aurora, Ontario.

Hutchinson wrapped up her Orange career helping lead the Orange to a program-best ninth-place finish at the 2026 NCAA Championship. Hutchinson was a mainstay in the V8 all season, sitting fourth seat in each race. She and the V8 finished ninth nationally in 2026 and Hutchinson was named a Second Team All-American and First Team All-ACC. Hutchinson is no stranger to international competition, having won gold with Great Britain in 2025 and 2024 in the Women's Eight. Hutchinson is a native of Castle Rock, Londonderry.

Another member of the 'Cuse V8, Cassidy will be in the 4- alongside Hutchinson for Team Great Britain. They sat sixth seat for the entirety of the season and was named a Second Team All-American and Second Team All-ACC honoree. Cassidy is a native of Enniskillen, Northern Ireland.
