The two programs have met once previously. The Orange claimed a 1-0 decision on Aug. 29, 2024, at the SU Soccer Stadium. Ava Uribe scored an unassisted goal and Shea Vanderbosch made eight saves in the shutout.
Syracuse Status
The Orange are coming off a 3-1 victory against Holy Cross on Aug. 16. Syracuse opened the campaign by playing Villanova to a 0-0 draw.
Fifth-year midfielder Vickie Jones keyed the Holy Cross triumph with two goals, the second on a penalty kick. Junior defender Jasmine Nixon scored her first collegiate goal and sophomore Abby Incorvaia had an assist on Nixon's tally.
Junior Maya Naimoli has played all of the first two matches in goal for the Orange. She owns a 0.50 goals-against average and an .857 save percentage.
Northwestern Status
Northwestern lost its first outing, 3-1, at Virginia. Senior midfielder Holland Carey scored the Wildcats' lone goal against the Cavaliers. Sophomore defender Gabby Anderson had the assist. Senior goalkeeper CJ Roy manned the net against Virginia in what was her first career start.
Michael Moynihan is in his 15th season as Northwestern head coach. He has guided the Wildcats into five NCAA Tournaments. In 2016, Northwestern captured the Big Ten Championship.
The Wildcats were picked to finish eighth in the Big Ten Preseason Poll.
