From the Start
- It's a new season of Syracuse University field hockey as the Orange embark on their 54th year.
- 'Cuse will get tested early on the road with five straight away from the friendly confines of J.S. Coyne Field to open 2026, the fourth season under head coach Lynn Farquhar. And while the Orange will be certified Road Warriors by the time they play at home, it's not huge distances. The farthest Syracuse will travel in this five-game stretch is Boston this Sunday, just over 300 miles from Syracuse's home at the John A. Lally Athletics Complex and Coyne Field.
- Two New England teams await Syracuse this weekend, leading off with Fairfield, which also qualified for the NCAA Tournament a year ago, capped with a trip to Northeastern on Sunday. Games times are slated for 3 p.m. and noon, respectively.
- Farquhar begins her fourth season at the helm of the program, looking to add to her 37 wins in her first three seasons. Syracuse reached the NCAA Tournament quarterfinals for a second time in those first three years last year, knocking out Liberty in strokes.
- It's a pair of semi-familiar opponents to open the season - Syracuse and Fairfield played at Coyne a year ago, resulting in a 5-2 Orange win. The 'Cuse and the Huskies played in 2024, a 2-0 Syracuse victory on home turf.
With a Win Friday Syracuse Would...
- Win its 19th straight season opener, excluded a unique 2020-21 season against mostly ACC opponents.
- Improve to 4-0 all-time against Fairfield overall and 2-0 in the Nutmeg State.
- Be the 38th win in Lynn Farquhar's head coaching career at Syracuse and her 145th overall win as a head coach, including 107 at Saint Joseph's.
- See the Orange win their 15th-straight regular season nonconference game, dating back to a September 13, 2024 win over Northeastern.

New Faces
- Eleven newcomers will officially suit up for the Orange.
- Graduate student Grace Anne McCooey brings years of collegiate experience, including a run to the championship game last season at Princeton.
- Elisa Carvajal joins the Orange from Santiago, Chile, where she was a member of the junior national team program.
- Nine freshmen adorn the 2026 roster: Kaitlyn Harding, Belle van de Pas, Paige Mogar, Genevieve Huston, Jovie Weaver, Jess Liddell, Millicent Wright, Ava Brewer, and Addie Youree.
- The nine true freshmen on the roster are the second-most rookies in the Farquhar Era (2023). Last year's class, Â now sophomores, totaled 13 for the 2025 season.
Sister Act
- Syracuse's roster sports a pair of twins, Bo and Hattie Madden, who each been lethal on the field this season.Â
- The Maddens have connected on two goals last year, once against Lock Haven (Aug. 29) and again on the road at Stanford (Oct. 10). The Lock Haven game was the first time in their collegiate careers the Twins have connected for a goal.
- Both Maddens started in every game for the Orange last season, combining for over 1,000 minutes.Â
Sister Act II
- The Maddens aren't the only sister act for the Orange this season.
- Freshman Belle van de Pas is the younger sister of Pieke van de Pas, who played as a graduate student for Lynn Farquhar in the head coach's first season back with the Orange in 2023.Â
- Belle will look to make an early impact for the Orange, including on the attacking penalty corner unit.
- Pieke earned NFHCA Second Team All-America honors that season and was a First Team All-Mideast region pick alongside All-ACC honors.Â
- Van de Pas the elder scored 11 goals with nine assists for 31 points, one off the points lead and racking a team-best in assists.
