No. 6 Orangewomen Rowers Remain Undefeated; Win Orange Plus Cup At Home
Syracuse's varsity eight defeated second-place UMass by more than 13 seconds. Heather DiLoreto (East Amherst, NY) was the coxswain for the boat, which is now 8-0 in 2001. The win was the last home race for seniors Meredith Kyle (Rochester, NY) and Katie Modolo (St. Catherine's, Ontario, Canada). Kyle served as the bow and Modolo rowed in the seventh seat. By winning the varsity eight race, Syracuse won the Orange Plus Cup. It is the third trophy the Orangewomen have collected this spring, the BIG EAST Rowing Challenge and Orange Challenge Cup are the other two.
The Orange's varsity four crossed the finish line in 8:28.9, more than 23 seconds ahead of second-place UMass. The varsity four had the Syracuse-area tandem of Nikki Kuczek (Liverpool, NY, Liverpool HS) and Lesley Wolf (Syracuse, NY, Henninger HS) rowing as the stroke and second seat, respecitively.
Syracuse placed second to UMass in the junior varsity eight race. In the second varsity four the Orangewomen took first place, finishing in 8:41.4. Syracuse won the first novice eight race, crossing the finish line more than 15 seconds ahead of Villanova and 33 seconds ahead of UMass. In the first novice four race, Syracuse lost to Villanova.
The Orangewomen's next race is the Eastern Sprints on Sunday, May 13, in Camden, NJ.
